COLORADO SPRINGS, CO -- Western Michigan's Shane Berschbach and Kenney Morrison have each earned weekly honors from the National Collegiate Hockey Conference after helping the Broncos win and tie at No. 3 St. Cloud State over the weekend.
Berschbach earns his second Bauer NCHC Offensive Player of the Week Award this season, while Morrison earns his first Bauer NCHC Defenseman of the Week award.
Berschbach netted his ninth goal of the season in Friday's 5-5 tie to cut SCSU's lead to 4-3 during the comeback. He then assisted on Chase Balisy's game-tying goal to force overtime and the shootout. On Saturday he netted the game-winning goal to secure five-of-six points from the first-place Huskies. The senior forward leads the Broncos in points with 26, assists with 16 and is tied with Justin Kovacs with 10 goals.
Morrison had a career-best three assists in Friday's 5-5 tie and shootout win and finished plus-three. He assisted on WMU's first, second and third goals of the game. On Saturdayhe found Berschbach streaking to the blue line and fed him for the game-winning goal. The sophomore defenseman has recorded at least one assist in the past five games for a career-long point streak with eight helpers.
The Broncos are off this weekend and host Minnesota-Duluth on Jan. 31 and Feb. 1 at 7 p.m.
