Lions Fall 31-24 to Arizona Cardinals Posted December 20, 2009 by Dan Cash

DETROIT -- After trailing 17-0 at halftime it appeared the Detroit Lions were headed for a second straight blowout loss.  That all changed however when Louis Delmas intercepted a pass in his own end zone and took it back 101 yards for a Touchdown.

From there Maurice Morris ran a 64-yard Touchdown to bring the Lions within 17-14.  A defensive stop later it was Jason Hanson capitalizing on 2 straight unsportsmanlike conduct penalties to tie the game 17-17 on the strength of a 37-yard field goal.

The score however wasn't too be as the Cardinals got a strong kickoff return from Steve Breaston which led to an 18-yard TD run by Beanie Wells giving the Cardinals a 24-17 lead.

The Lions appeared to have stalled on the following drive before Breaston fumbled a fair catch leading to 3rd string Lions Quarterback Drew Stanton's 1st career rushing TD to tie the game at 24.

The Cardinals than moved down the field and scored the game winning TD on a 5-yard pass from Kurt Warner to Anquan Boldin to give the Cardinals a 31-24 victory over the Lions at Ford Field Sunday.

The win improves the Cardinals to 9-5 while the struggling Lions fall to 2-12 on the season.  Lions Safety and former Western Michigan star Louis Delmas played a key role in the Lions comeback hopes returning the 101-yard interception as well as making some key stops as the Lions elevated themselves back into the game.

Next week the Lions head to San Francisco for a 4:05 EST kickoff with the 49ers.

Red Wings Win in Howard's First Career Shutout Posted December 17, 2009 by Dan Cash

Detroit, MI (Sports Network) - Jimmy Howard recorded his first career shutout, turning aside 30 shots in all as Detroit won its season-high fourth straight game, 3-0, over the Lightning.

Drew Miller, Todd Bertuzzi and Patrick Eaves each scored for the Red Wings, who added Henrik Zetterberg to their laundry list of injured players after their leading scorer exited early following a hard hit from Mattias Ohlund.

Mike Smith gave up three goals on just 22 shots for Tampa Bay, which has lost six straight on 10 of 11 overall.

The only goal of the first two periods came at the 8:24 mark of the first.

Brian Rafalski's long pass from the Wings' defensive to the offensive zone was knocked down at the blue line by Miller, who controlled the puck and chipped it over a sliding Smith while diving through the air.

It stayed 1-0 through a scoreless second, and a Tampa turnover in its own zone resulted in Bertuzzi's re-direction off a Tomas Holmstrom centering pass.

That goal came at 6:48 of the third, and less than four minutes later, Eaves' tally on a nice deke essentially sealed the game's outcome.

Howard improved to 11-6-1 on the season with 10 saves in each period.
