(Grand Rapids, MI - WHTC News) - In a court brief, the Ottawa County Sheriff’s Department refutes claims made in a federal lawsuit that John Ketchapaw wasn’t properly supervised prior to his death in the county jail three years ago. His family contends that the store owner, incarcerated for selling illegal fireworks, told deputies about suicidal thoughts before he choked himself with a phone cord. The county counters that Ketchapaw made no such statements.
