KALAMAZOO -- A Kalamazoo woman who was struck nearly a month ago by a drunk driver, has now died from her injuries and prosecutors are getting ready to bring new charges against the man who struck her. Public Safety says 61-year-old Jean Belmonte was trying to cross Gull Road at Humphrey St. when she was struck on July 26th.
Her head hit the windshield of the car. Officers found her breathing but unresponsive with head injuries. She was rushed the few blocks to Borgess for treatment. The 56-year-old driver, a man from Galesburg was not injured, but he was charged with driving drunk causing injury. The prosecutor’s office is expected to alter that charge now that she has died.
