GREENVILLE(WKZO) -- Twenty-year-old Lance Corporal Matt Hanson formerly of Greenville has been killed in Afghanistan. Family members say the marine died over the weekend when he was shot in the hip by enemy fire and died while being airlifted to an aide station. He had deployed for the first time just last month.
Hanson grew up in Greenville but moved to Kentucky his sophomore year in High School. A memorial service may be held in Greenville. Burial will likely be in Kentucky, where his parents live.
