WAUSAU, Wis. (WSAU) – A 19-year-old Wausau teen has been jailed on a $50,000 cash bond for stabbing a 15-year-old in the stomach and arm during a fight between rival gangs late Saturday.
Ger Vue was charged with felony second-degree recklessly endangering safety and child abuse-intentionally cause harm.
According to police, Vue stabbed the 15-year-old during a fight outside an underage drinking party on the 900 block of Stark Street. Members of the 15-year-old's gang had been drinking when members of Vue's gang showed up and started fighting.
Vue “displayed the knife and was screaming at the top of his lungs that he was going to hurt somebody,” police Chief Jeff Hardel said. “He was whipping his arm around and so everyone noticed him.”
But “Vue contends that he was acting in self defense,” public defender Anne Renc said at his initial appearance. “He even tried to calm everyone down before the fight became physical.”
The victim identified Vue as the stabber. Vue admitted to his involvement in the stabbing, Hardel said.
“There's been some tension between the two gangs recently,” Hardel said, adding the stabbing was in retaliation for a previous gang conflict.
A 17-year-old who lived at the house where the party took place, Nhia Koua Moua, was cited for providing alcohol to underage persons. Police took her to jail for obstructing an officer by lying to police at least three times during the investigation.
The investigation continues and police say more people could be charged for their role in the fight.
