PORTAGE -- The Portage Teachers union and the Portage Board of Education have ratified their new teachers contract for the coming school year. Teachers will get a 1.25 increase in base pay, but they will be paying higher premiums for their health insurance and there will be a higher deductible.  It also formalizes the scheduling structure in secondary schools and a change in planning time in the elementary schools that will make it possible to launch Spanish instruction for all 4th and 5th graders.
