APLPETON, WI (WTAQ) - An 18-year-old man who abandoned his newborn baby daughter behind a Kimberly church is headed to trial.
Benjamin LaMarche was in court Friday afternoon and waived his right to a preliminary trial that determines the evidence being brought against him.
The mother, who is also charged in the case, 17-year-old Nadia Zahirudin called her boyfriend over and told him to “get rid of the thing”.
LaMarche's fear of getting in trouble prevented him from stepping into the hospital to drop off the baby, and instead left the newborn behind a church. Under Wisconsin's Safe Haven Law, the hospital is a safe place to drop off a newborn.
Zahirudin's preliminary trial is set for July 27th.
