Tom Eagon

STEVENS POINT, Wis. (WSAU) – District attorney Tom Eagon wants to be Portage County’s next judge.

Eagon announced Wednesday that he is running for the bench to replace Judge Frederic Fleishauer, who will retire at the end of next month.

There will be a special election to fill Fleishauer’s seat.

“I was born and raised in Portage County and have been dedicated to making Portage County a safe and secure place to live, raise a family and do business. This can only happen when all people are treated with dignity and respect,” Eagon said in a written statement.

Eagon has practiced law for 26 years and has been the district attorney since 1995.

The Wisconsin District Attorney’s Association named Eagon in June as the top prosecutor of the year. Eagon received the honor in large part for his work in helping to convict Michael Haydon in the 2003 shooting death of Kolbe and Kolbe trucker Pat Zemke. Haydon was sentenced in late August to life in prison without any chance of release.
