LANSING (WKZO) -- The Michigan Department of Transportation's announced 84.7-million dollars in funding for roads and bridges in southwest Michigan this year.
MDOT plans to upgrade 162-miles of pavement and 33 bridges in the area with roughly seven-million dollars more than what last year's budget provided. That includes 1.3-million dollars to replace the Park Street bridge over Axtell Creek in Kalamazoo, 882-thousand dollars to repair the Jonesville Road bridge over I-69 in Coldwater, and another million dollars to repair the M-63 bridge over I-94 in St. Joseph Township.
MDOT will also have five-million for work on M-43 and M-37 in Hastings, 11-million for work in Plainwell, and another 13-million for northbound I-196 from 130th Avenue to US-31 near Saugatuck and Holland. In total, it adds up to 66.7-million dollars in roadwork and 18-million dollars for work on repairing or replacing bridges.
