MILWAUKEE (WTAQ) - A getaway driver in the killing of a pregnant woman in Milwaukee has struck a plea deal in which he was convicted of felony murder.

18-year-old Jimmy Scales pleaded guilty Tuesday, and prosecutors will recommend 20 years in prison when he's sentenced on April 20th.

According to police, Scales and two others were looking for someone to rob last August when they approached 34-year-old Sharon Staples and her 13-year-old son on a north side Milwaukee street.

The other two teens pulled a gun and demanded her purse -- but Staples refused to give it up and was shot to death.

The two then ran to the getaway car, and Scales drove off.

As part of his plea bargain, an attempted robbery charge was dropped.

16-year-old Mical Thomas and 15-year-old Malik Merchant still face homicide and robbery charges. They're scheduled to go on trial April 16th.
