KALAMAZOO (WKZO) -- The 10th ranked Western Michigan Broncos imrpoved to 5-2 on the season beating Bowling Green tonight 3-1.

The Broncos and Falcons came out full of energy as the first period began.  Western Michigan had no trouble gaining the offensive zone and outshot Bowling Green 13-1 in the period.  The Bronco's Dane Walters was able to find the back of the net with 5:58 remaining in the period to give WMU the lead.  The Falcons offense was nowhere to be found in the first period as they recorded their only shot 12 minutes into the game.  Even with the relentless offensive attack of WMU the Bowling Green defense and goalie Andrew Hammond did a great job cleaning up rebounds to keep the game at 1-0 heading into the second.

Western Michigan didn't wait long to increase their lead in the second period as Chase Balisy netted a shorthanded goal just 1:16 into the period.  Just a few minutes later Bowling Green put themselves back into the game as Bryce Williamson chipped in a loose puck infront of the net.  The period was evenly matched with both teams having several scoring opportunities but the Broncos still outshot their opponent 10-5 in the second.

The intensity picked up in the third period as both teams laid out some heavy hits.  The fast paced action did give the Falcons several chances to tie the game but failed to get most of their shots on net.  Western Michigan took advantage of the Bowling Green's miscues as Kenney Morrison scored his first carrer goal 8:20 into the period.

The final score stood at 3-1 and the Broncos improved to 5-2 on the season.  Western Michigan will play tomorrow at 7:05 in Bowling Green.
