EAST LANSING (WKZO) -- Despite frigid temperatures, well over a thousand Michigan State Students and other revelers gathered near campus, lighting bonfires, sofas and dumpsters to celebrate the Spartan win over Ohio State.
They spent well over a hour tossing sofas and matresses and a few branches into the largest of the bonfires to keep it going. They also danced, and cheered and celebrated the big victory, many students calling it a tradition.
Early Sunday morning, police wearing riot gear were able to reclaim control of River and Cedar Streets and disperse the crowds without resorting to water cannons or tear gas.
Pushed away from the fires, the cold helped convince students it was time to return to their rooms and dispersed quickly.
There were nearly a dozen arrests for disruptive behavior.
