WASHINGTON D.C. (WTVB) - The U.S. Supreme Court is upholding Michigan's ban on affirmative action in public college admissions.  In the ruling, the high court said states can end affirmative action without violating the U.S. Constitution.  The decision means a state constitution may be altered to remove race as a consideration for college admissions.  Justices Ruth Bader Ginsburg and Sonia Sotomayor dissented.

The case centered on Proposal 2, called the Michigan Civil Rights Initiative, which was approved by 58% of voters.
