KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – More than 2,500 people converged on downtown Kalamazoo’s Arcadia Creek Festival site Sunday morning for the running of the Zeigler Kalamazoo Marathon which featured both a full and half marathon.
Both races took participants through Western Michigan University’s Waldo football stadium and other city landmarks. Also included were the 10K and 5K walk and run featuring past popular mile marker stops like a bacon station, a gummy bear forest, a pickle pit and more.
The full and half marathons began at 7:30 a.m. with the 5K walk and run beginning at 7:55 a.m. with the 10K following at 8:00 a.m.
While no officials times were released, the winners of each race included: 26-year-old Jonathan Coleman of Chicago, Illinois who won the full marathon. 25-year-old Grand Rapids resident Ryan Budnik took first place in the half marathon, while 38-year-old Dexter Fossit of Paw Paw came out on top for the 10K event. And the winner of the 5K event was local resident 24-year-old Alex Harrel of Kalamazoo.
Children also had the opportunity to run a 1k in the free PNC Kids’ 1K the day before on Saturday. According to Race director Carrie Drake, 800 kids participated.
