DETROIT (WKZO)- The Detroit Tigers need every win they can get right now to remain in the playoff race and they helped their cause today as Alex Avila hit a two-out walk off single and drove home J.D. Martinez as the Tigers defeated the Yankees 3-2.

Kyle Lobstein did an excellent job in his first start for the Tigers pitching six innings giving up one on four hits, while walking one batter.

Phil Coke (2-2) picked up the win in relief.

The Tigers started off the day well taking a 1-0 lead in the second inning as Alex Aliva brought home Nick Castellanos with a sacrifice fly.

The Yankees added a run in the third and fourth innings.

Rajai Davis tied the game in the fifth inning with a two out single to drive home Don Kelly.

The Tigers hit the road again as they travel to Chicago to take on the White Sox in a four game series.  Justin Verlander (11-11 4.82 ERA) will make the start for the Tigers and Scott Carroll (5-8 5.05) will take the mound for the White Sox.  Broadcast time is at 7:45 pm on AM 590 WKZO.
