KALAMAZOO (WKZO) -- Bronson Heart and Vascular will be holding an event this week to teach people how to perform hands only CPR and use an AED machine. Carmella Pulling, the director of the cardiovascular program for Bronson Heart and Vascular, says that automatic external defibrillators are common, and actually quite simple to use.
"The machine actually does the work for them," Pulling told WKZO. However, she added, the problem is that most people don't want to touch them. "AEDs are in almost every public building, and yet most of the public iks afraid of opening the device because they don't know if it's going to shock them, or if it's going to shock the victim."
Bronson's attempting to help by offering a free AED class this Wednesday. It'll be at the Gilmore Center for Health Education from 6:30 to 7:30 PM. There, they'll also teach people how to do hands only CPR. To register, go BronsonHealth.com/events .
