KALAMAZOO (WKZO) -- Leaders at Borgess Medical Center in Kalamazoo are pleased with a distinction the faclity recently received. Consumer Reports ranked Borgess as one of 15 hospitals in the United States with the best performance on heart bypass and valve surgeries. Doctor David Martin, the Director of Cardiovascular Surgery at Borgess, says that Kalamazoo area residents are fortunate to have a top ranked facility for heart surgery in the region.
"That's whta we do for a living," Martin told WKZO. "We have very high expectations and high standards, and a very wonderful work ethic. When you think about it, it's really an amazing resource and facility for the people of the community. They don't have to leave the commmunity for this kind of care and support."
Two other Michigan hospitals made the Consumer Reports list. They are Spectrum Health in Grand Rapids and Saint Joseph Mercy Hospital in Ypsilante. The publication looked at things like patient experience, patient outcomes, avoiding adverse effects, and overall performance when compiling the rankings.
