KALAMAZOO (WKZO) -- There was too much of the wrong kind of fireworks on Kalamazoo’s north end this Fourth of July weekend after three separate shootings left one resident dead and five others wounded. Two of the wounded victims were women.
Chief Jeff Hadley told Commissioners that it’s all so stupid, because it wasn’t over drugs or turf or any domestic issues, it was just people who think they can resolve their conflicts with guns, and he says its unacceptable.
Public Safety has a remarkable record when it comes to solving murder cases. Hadley tells us that they have multiple witnesses and are still sorting out what happened.
30-year-old Orlando Walker was fatally wounded during what was described by witnesses as a gunfight between two groups that followed an argument at Church and Norway Sunday night.
Kalamazoo City Commissioners and Chief Hadley says its going to take a concerted effort by the community to end the kind of violence that occurred during the fourth of July weekend.
Chief Hadley says he has been in a lot of meetings with a lot of very smart people and finding answers is tough and frustrating.
No suspects have been arrested so far in any of the shootings.
