Stabenow announces help for fruit growers

WASHINGTON, D.C. (WKZO) -- Financial help is headed to Michigan fruit growers who suffered heavy losses in 2012 from freezing weather in April. U.S. Senator Debbie Stabenow, the chair of the Senate Agriculture, Forestry and Nutrition Committee, says farmers can start signing up for the help through the U.S. Department of Agriculture. The assistance was included in the 2014 Farm Bill. Growers can be reimbursed up to 125-thousand dollars for losses suffered on uninsured crops like apples and cherries.
