DETROIT (WKZO)- It was a crazy day for the Detroit Tigers on and off the field. The Tigers traded away today's starting pitcher Drew Smyly to Tampa Bay and center fielder Austin Jackson to the Seattle Mariners. The Tigers picked up starting pitcher David Price from the Rays.
On the field the Tigers fell behind 3-0 early on before the Tigers were able to take a 4-3 lead in the third inning with back-to-back solo home runs off the bats of J.D. Martinez and Torii Hunter. The White Sox though were able to tie the game in the next inning.
In the seventh inning the White Sox loaded the bases and Joakim Soria hit a batter to bring home a run for the White Sox and they added two more runs in the 8th inning to defeat the Tigers 7-4.
Drew Smyly had a no decision as he pitched five innings giving up four runs on 11 hits while striking out two batters.
The Tigers will re-enter interleague play this weekend as they play a three game series against the struggling Colorado Rockies. Justin Verlander (9-9 4.79 ERA) will seek his 10th win of the season tomorrow and will square-off against Franklin Morales (5-5 5.18 ERA). Broadcast time is at 6:40 pm on AM 590 WKZO.
