Williams found not guilty in Mattawan shooting death

The Van Buren County Courthouse.

PAW PAW (WKZO) -- A Van Buren County Circuit Court Jury has found a man charged with murder “not guilty”, despite hearing from four eyewitnesses who said he did it.

27-year-old Daniel Williams had been charged with open murder and felony firearms for allegedly shooting Ricardo Parker to death at an organized dance party at the Antwerp Township activity center

in Mattawan in February of last year. The shooting reportedly followed a fight that erupted at the party where dozens were in attendance.

Four people testified for the prosecution but apparently the defense was able to poke holes in their credibility and one of them refused to be cross examined and that testimony was dismissed.

In the end the jury was not convinced beyond a reasonable doubt and jurors came back with the not guilty verdict.
