LANSING (WKZO) -- Governor Snyder has signed the so-called “School Bus”, the Omnibus Budget bill for public schools, community colleges and universities at the state Capitol.
The Governor once again stated that they are putting a 1.1 billion more into public schools than when they took office.
Education officials and democrats have been disputing those figures. Democratic opponent Mark Schauer says $50 per student is not enough by his calculations to even overcome the effects of inflation. It amounts to less than 1% per student.
The 15.7-billion dollar funding measure also included a 6% increase for four-year Universities and 3% for Community Colleges.
Governor Snyder has also signed a bill giving more rights to breast-feeding moms to do their thing in public.
Snyder also signed a bill shielding government records on gun ownership from the Freedom of Information act. Police agencies would still be able to access the data when investigating criminal behavior, but there would be no access by reporters or civilians.
