Detroit Tigers 2B Ian Kinsler

ARLINGTON, TEXAS (WKZO)- Ian Kinsler returned to face his former team the Texas Rangers and was greeted for the most part with cheers and applause.  Kinsler then hit a solo home run in the top of the first inning to silence the fans and give the Tigers an early 1-0 lead.

The Rangers tied it up in the thrid and it remained tied until the seventh inning when the Tigers opened up the flood gates.  It started with a two run home run by J.D. Martinez, his eighth of the season and then the Tigers got RBIs from Alex Avila, Rajai Davis, and Victor Martinez to give the Tigers a 6-1 lead.

The Tigers added to their lead in the eighth as Kinsler delivered with a two run single and the Tigers lead built to 8-1.

The Rangers added a run in the ninth, but that was all as the Tigers won 8-2.

Drew Smyly picked up the victory as he pitched six innings giving up one unearned run on five hits while walking one and striking out five.

The Tigers will look for another win over the depleted Rangers squad on Wednesday.  Broadcast time is at 7:40 pm on AM 590 WKZO.  Anibal Sanchez (4-2 2.33 ERA) will take the hill for the Tigers and Joe Saunders (0-3 4.11 ERA) gets the starting nod for the Rangers.
