Arlington, TX (WKZO) – Rick Porcello tossed a three-hitter for his first career complete game shutout as the Detroit Tigers beat the Texas Rangers 6-0 Thursday night to complete the three-game series sweep while recording their seventh consecutive victory.
Porcello dominated Rangers’ hitters, allowing just three hits and three walks while striking out six for his 10th victory of the year. This was just the second complete game for Porcello in his six year career.
Miguel Cabrera had four hits and former Ranger Ian Kinsler had a bases loaded single for the Tigers, who increase their lead in the AL Central to 4.5 games over Kansas City, who were off on Thursday.
The Tigers scored three runs in the third inning highlighted by Austin Jackson’s two-run single giving the Tigers a 3-0 lead.
Torii Hunter drew a bases-load walk in the second for the Tigers’ first run. This was the fourth shutout for the Tigers’ pitching staff this season.
The Tigers continue their Texas road trip as they kick off a three-game series with the Houston Astros on Friday night. Justin Verlander will toe the rubber for Detroit as first pitch is set for 8:10pm.
