KALAMAZOO (WKZO) -- David Reid, the new director at Kalamazoo/Battle Creek International Airport tells us that one of their goals this year is to recruit a discount air-carrier.
He says landing an airline with lower fares would certainly attract more business and promote lower ticket prices from the other airlines.
Reid was selected after a nationwide search to replace Cliff Moshiganis.
Reid had been interim director and prior to that, he had been working his way up the ladder since 1994, after graduating from the WMU Aviation School with a degree in aviation management.
The airport has to compete with larger regional airports in Grand Rapids and South Bend and major hubs in Chicago and Detroit.
He says they have a new terminal with all the amenities, convenient parking and Duncan Aviation has just remodeled the facility used by corporate travelers.
The FAA is making a major investment in Kalamazoo with a brand new tower and a new radar facility that will soon be taking over air traffic control for the entire region.
New radar technology makes it possible to handle traffic for several regional airports from one facility.
