LANSING (WKZO) -- Its great news if you run a brewery or own a liquor store but the confluence of St. Patrick’s Day, March Madness and Spring Break can make the roads less safe.
That’s why 144 Michigan police agencies will be using federal dollars to fund extra patrols to target drunk drivers for the next three weeks.
Michael Prince with the Office of Highway Safety Planning says local officers know exactly the best places to wait for drunks.
Counties all along the lakeshore and the I-94 corridor are participating.
Prince says last year during this period they arrested over 23-hundred drunk drivers statewide, citing 671 for being “super-drunks”.
