KALAMAZOO (WKZO) -- Kalamazoo Public Safety will be seeking a charge against a man who was walking down Cork Street carrying an AR-15, that’s the semi-automatic civilian version of the assault rifle used by the U.S. military.
While he shifted the rifle from shoulder to shoulder and never directly threatened anyone, claiming his right to open carry guns, he did launch a barrage of foul language at the Public Safety officers, who took his rifle and sent him home.
Resident Dick Fink asked City Commissioners last night if that was an appropriate police response.
Chief Jeff Hadley says they will leave it to the prosecutor to decide if a crime occurred. They plan to request a charge of brandishing a firearm.
There were suspicions the man was drunk but he refused a breathalyzer.
